Section 508 (a) A text equivalent for every non-text element shall be provided (e.g., via "alt", "longdesc", or in element content).

This image has no alternate text to describe it to the non-sighted. This content - the flag being raised over the Pentagon - could be described within the html coding so that sight-impaired persons could hear it the description through their screenreaders. Screen readers, such as JAWS and IBM home page reader, are capable of reading the text on a web page or software application out from the video card in a synthesized voice.
This image has a client side image map with no alternate text.
A non-sighted user would be unable to discern what the image represents and where the links within it would go.
This applet has no alternative text to describe it to the non-sighted or to those whose browser is not Java-capable.
